ANZAC DAY | An Important Piece of Australian History

Anzac Day: a day of great importance for Australians and New Zealanders. This day for remembrance grants us the opportunity to consider the brave soldiers who served and sacrificed their lives for their country.

Island Optical would like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day and pay tribute to those who have served.

What Happened and When

Anzac Day is observed on April 25th every year, marking the anniversary of the first notable military action fought by a combined force of Australia and New Zealand during the First World War. It was a battle on the shores of Gallipoli, Turkey, in 1915, where the ANZACs (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) landed to capture the Ottoman Empire’s capital, Constantinople.

However, the battle was unsuccessful, and the campaign lasted eight months, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides.

The ANZAC Trait

Despite the losses, the ANZACs showed incredible bravery and determination, which has become a defining trait of the Australian and New Zealand spirit. This day is not only a remembrance of those who fought in Gallipoli but also of all soldiers across Australia and New Zealand who have served and sacrificed their lives in conflicts worldwide.

Anzac Day is a day to reflect on the meaning of sacrifice, courage, and resilience. It is a day to honour those who have served and to thank the men and women who continue to serve in defence of our country. It is a time for unity, paying tribute to courageous men and women who have served our country and defended our freedoms.

Recognising Courage Takes Humility

At Island Optical, we proudly support our armed forces, both past and present. We acknowledge the sacrifices made by our military personnel and their families and understand the importance of commemorating their service.

On Anzac Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember and reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served. We can do this by attending a dawn service or visiting a local war memorial. It is also an opportunity to support veterans and their families by donating to organizations that provide support services.

Did You Know?

As many of our former servicemen and women are aging members of our communities, please take the opportunity to check in with these ones. They may be your parent, grandparent, or a much-loved family friend. At this time, general eye health and thorough vision care are more valuable than ever before as these treasured members of the community continue to benefit themselves and others around them.

Bulk-billed eye tests are available through Island Optical. We warmly encourage you to remind them about the value of a regular eye test.
