World Sight Day

#LoveYourEyes with World Sight Day 2025

On Thursday, October 9th, the world will come together for World Sight Day 2025 – an annual campaign dedicated to driving international action for universal access to eyecare.

What is IAPB?

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is the leading global voice for eye health. Since 1975, it has brought together more than 250 charities, hospitals, academic institutions, professional bodies, and corporate partners across more than 100 countries. These organisations share the mission to end avoidable vision loss and ensure everyone has access to affordable, high-quality eye care.

Globally, over one billion people live with vision impairment without adequate access to treatment. IAPB not only empowers individuals to prioritise their own eye health but also works to inspire governments to prioritise it as a social, educational and economic issue so that we can live in a future where eye health is a universal right.

Celebrating World Sight Day

Established in 2000 by IAPB in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), World Sight Day is observed every October to highlight the importance of vision and raise awareness surrounding preventable sight loss. It encourages individuals to have their eyes regularly tested and calls on policymakers to improve access to eye care globally.

WHO estimates at least 2.2 billion people live with vision impairment, yet 90% of sight loss could be prevented or treated. Simple interventions such as glasses or cataract surgery can transform lives.

World Sight Day is a rallying call to secure accessible eye care, affordable glasses and available eye tests for all by 2030.

#LoveYourEyes

Hand-in-hand with World Sight Day 2025 is the #LoveYourEyes campaign, a powerful reminder for everyone to prioritise their own eye health while demanding equitable eye care for all.

From October 9th, the movement launches a year-long petition aiming to gather one million voices urging decision-makers to act on eye health.

There are many ways to #LoveYourEyes. Love Your Eyes in Every Workplace is encouraging employers – from office spaces to factory floors – to make accessible eye care a workplace standard.

At the same time, Love Your Child’s Eyes is highlighting the importance of children’s vision, calling on families and schools to make children’s eye health a priority so that every child can thrive.

Get Involved!

This year’s World Sight Day places lived experiences and personal stories at the heart of the campaign, with the understanding that Every Story Counts. People everywhere are encouraged to share their journeys with eye health, reminding us that behind every statistic lies a real person whose sight matters.

Creative individuals can also participate in the World Sight Day Photo Competition, now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Open to photographers of all skill levels, the competition showcases compelling images that highlight the life-changing power of accessible eye care.
